To celebrate the King’s Coronation, the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has decided to make a huge donation to charities, with major UK bookmakers also participating in the event. The funds, which will be donated to beneficiaries will be generated through the feature handicap Britannia Stakes race, which will be held at this year’s Royal Ascot on June 22.
Among the beneficiaries, there are organisations like SportsAid, which is under the patronage of Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales, the Ascot Racecourse Supports, Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Holocaust Educational Trust, SAS Regimental Association (SASRA), and Together for Looked After Children.
Major BGC Bookmaker Members to Participate in Fundraising Initiative
Among the charity participants, members of the Betting and Gaming Council like Flutter, bet365, Entain, 888 William Hill, Kindred, Betway, Rank Group, Virgin Bet, LivescoreBet, Tote, Fitzdares, and Bet with Ascot have also decided to take a part in the fundraising event.
All of the profits that will be generated through wins and each-way bets, will be donated after the proper levy and duties have been deducted.
Last year, the major fundraising event managed to generate a huge profit of £1.2 million thanks to BGC members. The funds were then donated to a number of charitable causes.
This year, bookmakers have agreed on contributing to a joint donation of £250,000 if they do not end up making a profit from the charitable race. If that is the case, the collected money will then be distributed to this year’s beneficiaries.
Since its inception in 2019, the BGC has been able to help various worthy causes by raising more than £5.5 million. The charities which were among the beneficiaries of BGC donations include Prostate Cancer UK, ABF the Soldier’s Charity, The Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity, Sue Ryder, NHS Charities Together, and the RAF Benevolent Fund.
With the upcoming fundraising event, the BGC hopes that punters will enjoy the race even if they end up losing their wagers as a host of charitable causes will end up winning.
BGC Happy to Mark King’s Coronation by Raising Funds to Worthy Charities
With the upcoming Royal Meeting, the BGC Chief Executive, Michael Dugher, expressed his joy about the biggest members of the BGC who are willing to celebrate the King’s Coronation by helping raise funds for some of the top charitable causes in the country.
Dugher also added that this gesture was a fighting way to show respect to the Late Queen Elizabeth Ⅱ who was passionate about horse racing and helped the breeding of numerous successful horses, bringing the UK 1,800 winners during the Late Queen’s time.
The BGC Chief Executive also applauded betting companies participating in one of the biggest Royal Ascot races, helping great charities by donating all of their profits. Dugher also expressed his gratitude towards Ascot and their constant support.
Both representatives of Ascot Racecourse and other charities expressed their appreciation for the participation of BGC members in this major fundraising cause, donating all of their profits from the upcoming Britannia Stakes event.
